On 16 December 2010, the merger of the three development aid organisations of the Federal Republic of Germany was notarized in Berlin: Deutscher Entwicklungsdienst (DED) and InWEnt Internationale Weiterbildung und Entwicklung (InWEnt) were merged into Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ). GTZ will in the future use the company name Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and will have a double corporate seat at Eschborn and Bonn, the two traditional locations of the German development aid organisations. GIZ will combine the experience, the competence and the worldwide reputation built up over decades by the three development aid organisations and will commence its work on 1 January 2011.
