1&1 Mobilfunk GmbH and 1&1 Versatel Deutschland GmbH have concluded a contract for the lease of fiber-optic connections and data centers with an initial term until the end of 2050. The use of 1&1 Versatel's fiber transport network and data center infrastructure is another key pillar for 1&1 Mobilfunk's own 5G mobile network in Germany. The combination of fiber connections and cloud-based OpenRAN architecture of the 1&1 network enables particularly short transmission paths, which is a prerequisite for real-time applications such as autonomous driving and other 5G applications. 1&1 Mobilfunk GmbH and 1&1 Versatel Deutschland GmbH are subsidiaries and sister companies of 1&1 AG respectively.
Hengeler Mueller comprehensively advised 1&1 Mobilfunk on the contract negotiations and legal issues relating to groups of companies. The team was led by partner Katharina Hesse (M&A/Regulatory, Düsseldorf) and included partners Lucina Berger, Daniela Favoccia, Frank Burmeister (all M&A/Corporate, Frankfurt) as well as associates Marika Öry (Frankfurt), Maxi Ludwig (both M&A/Corporate), Michael Schramm (Data Protection/Regulatory) (both Düsseldorf).
