Hengeler Mueller announces 13 new partner and counsel promotions

Hengeler Mueller is strengthening its partnership with the appointment of Daniel Engel (Munich), Henning Hilke (Frankfurt), Sarah Milde (Munich), Mathäus Mogendorf (Berlin), Gunther Wagner (Munich) and Christoph Wilken (Brussels) with effect from 1 January 2022. At the same time, Anja Balitzki (Düsseldorf), Erasmus Hoffmann (Berlin), Luisa Kuschel (Munich), Marius Marx (Frankfurt), Johanna Peters (Frankfurt), Carolin Raspé (Berlin) and Malte Wundenberg (Frankfurt) will become counsel at Hengeler Mueller.

Daniel Engel's practice covers a broad spectrum of complex commercial litigation, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution. He focuses on contract, capital markets and corporate law disputes, including post-M&A matters. He is currently involved – among other matters – in TÜV SÜD's defence against claims related to a dam breach in Brazil and advises Linde in a dispute related to the merger with Praxair.

Henning Hilke advises corporate clients, private equity funds and banks on syndicated loans and other financing transactions with a particular emphasis on corporate and acquisition financings. His most recent mandates include advising Waterland Private Equity on the financing of its acquisition of a majority stake in the software developer Gesellschaft für Organisation und Datenverarbeitung mbH (GOD) and on the sale of a stake in Serrala to software investor Hg as well as advising CECONOMY AG on EUR 1.06 billion ESG-linked syndicated revolving credit facilities.

Sarah Milde advises clients on antitrust and merger control cases. Her focus is on cartel investigations and follow-on damage claims. She represents clients before the European Commission, the German Federal Cartel Office as well as before the European and German courts. Her practice also covers M&A-related merger control matters. Most recently, she advised MAN on the European-wide defence against follow-on damages litigation in the trucks case, LEONI on the sale of the Industrial Solutions business group to BizLink and Waterland on the sale of a stake in Serrala to Hg.

Mathäus Mogendorf's practice covers a broad spectrum of commercial litigation, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution. He focuses on contract and corporate as well as insolvency-related law disputes including post-M&A matters. He has significant experience in the worldwide strategic defence against coordinated lawsuits and class actions. He further advises on the defence against claims resulting from alleged violations of data protection regulations. His clients include banks and internet companies.

Gunther Wagner advises on all tax aspects of mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganisations as well as financing transactions. He also has extensive experience in advising on international tax law. Another focus of his practice is tax disputes and litigation. Most recently, he advised adidas on the sale of Reebok to ABG, HAL on the acquisition of a majority stake in Pro Gamers Group and Sennheiser on the takeover of the Consumer Electronics business by Sonova.

Christoph Wilken advises clients on German and European competition law and merger control cases. He represents clients before the German Federal Cartel Office, the European Commission, as well as before the European and German courts. For example, Christoph was recently involved in the acquisition of Eaton's global hydraulics business by Danfoss, which was approved by the European Commission following an in-depth investigation (so-called "phase 2").

Anja Balitzki advises domestic and foreign clients in all areas of European and German antitrust law, in particular merger control matters. She specialises in coordinating and reviewing foreign filings. Her most recent mandates include adidas' sale of Reebok to ABG, the secured Federal Cartel Office approval for Andros' acquisition of Spreewaldkonserve Golßen and KKR's sale of a 25.1% stake in HENSOLDT to Leonardo.

Erasmus Hoffmann advises and represents clients in strategic projects and litigation in relation to regulated industries. He has particular expertise in the areas of ESG, healthcare, data protection and IT security, and product compliance. His practice also includes regulatory advice on transactions, such as foreign trade and investment control laws for critical technologies and infrastructures. Recently, he advised Ørsted on the sale of a 50% stake in offshore wind farm Borkum Riffgrund 3 to Glennmont Partners, and Tencent on the merger of electric air mobility company Lilium with the US-SPAC Qell.

Luisa Kuschel's practice covers a broad spectrum of complex commercial litigation, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution. She focuses on commercial, capital markets and corporate law disputes, including mass litigations. Large cases where she is currently advising include the defence of a listed company against damage claims based on allegedly false capital market information.

Marius Marx advises clients on tax matters. His areas of expertise include transaction related tax advice, tax compliance and tax advice for businesses and international tax law. His most recent mandates include LEONI's sale of the Industrial Solutions business group to BizLink and Waterland portfolio company Skaylink's acquisition of root360.

Johanna Peters' practice covers a broad spectrum of complex litigation, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution. She focuses on capital markets and commercial disputes including post M&A matters. Large cases where she is currently advising include the defence of a listed company against damage claims based on allegedly false capital market information.

Carolin Raspé specialises in public and regulatory law, and advises and represents domestic and international companies, as well as the public sector, in particular on compliance and data protection matters. Her focus lies in conducting internal investigations and corresponding representation before German and foreign authorities. She is an experienced litigator representing clients in administrative and constitutional proceedings and legal disputes in all instances before specialised courts.

Malte Wundenberg advises domestic and foreign banks and financial services institutions, as well as asset managers, on matters relating to banking regulatory law as well as corporate governance topics. He further supports clients conducting internal investigations and advises on compliance issues. Most recently he advised, inter alia, GRENKE AG on internal and external investigations in connection with negative public representations by a short-seller.
