Hengeler Mueller advises BAWAG on successful closing of the acquisition of the German retail business from Barclays

Following the receipt of all regulatory approvals as communicated on 9 January 2025, BAWAG Group announced the successful closing of the acquisition of Hamburg-based Barclays Consumer Bank Europe from Barclays Bank Ireland PLC. The acquisition was completed by way of an Irish scheme of arrangement immediately followed by a cross-border merger of the Irish company into Austrian BAWAG.
